Omaha Union Station

I had a little more time to sightsee yesterday. Just up the road from my hotel is The Durham Museum. Even if you’re not a train and railroad buff, which I’m not, the museum still proves interesting. And it’s not just an homage to Omaha’s part in the great interconnectedness of 19th and 20th century America, but also to trains in general.

I attempted a selfie, posing as an interested train passenger in the 1920s cart. I was waiting for the part where I would exit the train and find myself back in time, but it never happened…No Twilight Zone action for me I guess.

The museum also had a really cool model train setup. Here’s a short video I captured. What really surprised me is how the narration of the voice nearly matched everything I recorded. I didn’t realize that until I watched it after the fact.

So concludes my tour of Omaha. It was fruitful and frustrating all wrapped into one, kind of like cookies with raisins instead of chocolate chips. This time tomorrow, I expect to be home again. Looking forward to it!

  1. I’m glad you’ve had play time while in Omaha. I rode the Auto Train from Virginia to Florida in 2004, when I moved. I haven’t been on a train since. It wasn’t my favorite mode of transportation. I would, however, love to do a train tour through the Canadian Rockies. Enjoy your time off, Phillip!

    1. Funny you mention the train tour through the Canadian Rockies as that’s also something I would love to experience. You can take it all the way from Vancouver to Toronto. Seems great in theory, but that might be TOO many days on a train… 🙂

Thanks for the well wishes, Jill!
