Drafted – The Process
**SPOILERS BELOW. If you have not read the story and want to be (hopefully) surprised, come back to this when you’re done.**
The varied reading I’ve been carrying on has provided a tremendous opportunity to challenge myself with my latest stories.
Drafted was my attempt to pull in some influence from recent Sports Illustrated articles I’d read and form a story around those concepts, of course throwing in some speculative twist (because it should be obvious now, that’s just how my brain rolls). The big happening in April was the 2018 NFL Draft and after reading some brief biographies on the top picks, I thought there was an opportunity to put together a really in-depth character. Turns out the in-depth character happened to be the agent more than the player. And I thought making the agent a woman was a fun twist. I don’t know about you guys, but I instinctively picture some slick-haired, slimy guy in the role.
Anyway, some stories just seem to almost write themselves and this was one of them. Man, if only that were the norm… 🙂
