Cold Heat – The Process
**SPOILERS BELOW. If you have not read the story and want to be (hopefully) surprised, come back to this when you’re done.**
Honestly, it must have been all the Avengers chatter going around the Interwebs.
The original title for this was The Avenging Heat which I’d created by mashing together a couple of phrases from recent poems I’d read (Title-mashing being a trick I picked up from writing guru, Dean Wesley Smith).
Add some myth-busting and a semi-Romeo and Juliet twist on it, and here you go–Cold Heat.
One of the things I really tried to focus on with this story was putting voice into the non-dialogue parts. I’ve always read how important that is for the story as a whole, but it’s not something I default to easily. Of course, these stories allow me to focus my practice on specific items, which may mean other important storytelling skills suffer an equal and opposite loss of focus. But I wanted to make Marquis’ internal voice come alive and I hope I was able to do that at least a little bit.
